I'm on vacation, so this I've kept this post short and sweet. Yep, I escaped cold and snowy New York to visit my mom in sunny Florida. I hadn't been to her house in 2 or 3 years, so I wandered around enjoying the many photos that adorned her walls.
Then one brought a tear to my eye. It's a picture of my mother and her brother from the 50's, they were both teenagers. They spent most of their adult lives on opposite coasts, and we lost him to tragic circumstances in 2009.
This is the picture.
I had forgotten that I framed it for her and wrote this short and sweet poem:
Brother...
So many yesterdays forgotten,
And many miles apart.
You may not have been in my arms,
But you were always in my heart.
I think this is a reminder.
Don't think about calling a loved one. Do it!
Don't say "we should get together." Do it!
What a sweet poem, and a lovely photo too.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI love this. So meaningful, both the photo and poem. And you are so right- never keep loving impulses unexpressed! Ever!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bestie!
DeleteA really beautiful post - and the photo (and poem) are something special. Thanks for sharing.

DeleteSo touching. Think I'm going to place an international call right now!
ReplyDeleteLovely post and what an amazing photo and poem, so special. Enjoy the sun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this. Thinking of someone is one thing..... but reaching out and connecting with them is another.
ReplyDeleteThanks! So true.
DeleteBeautiful picture. Enjoy your visit with your mom!! I'm in GA and I love how much warmer it is down here than it was in PA!
ReplyDeleteAlso...you offered to help with the punctuation on my son's poem? My email is tamaradwalsh (at) yahoo (dot) com. I'd really appreciate it. Punctuation isn't my strongest forte. :)
Thank you! I don't want to go back to NY. :'( Do you have to go back to PA?
DeleteI'm not by any means an expert, but I can offer you some suggestions. You can take'm or leave'm. haha.
Thank you so much for this Michaele. It means so much to me. It is a beautiful reminder to everyone. I had no idea that you had framed this picture and written the poem for your mom. I wish we could all be together sometime in the not-too-far-off future. I love you!!
ReplyDeleteYour welcome! My mom says she looks at it everyday.
